A History of Strategic Planning at Waverly Community Schools
Strategic Planning was initiated in order to involve the staff, students and community of Waverly in the process of defining the direction of the school district. The Board of Education adopted the first phase, 1995-2000, of the Strategic Plan in August of 1995.
The Strategic Planning Team was composed of district staff, parents, and community members chosen to represent many views and perspectives. Action Planning Teams were formed to write action plans for eight strategies. In 1996 and again in 1998, the Strategic Planning Team met to complete Periodic Updates of the Strategic Plan. These updates resulted in the development of new strategies and other adjustments to the plan.
Strategic Planning 2002-2007
The Thorough Review of the Strategic Plan was begun by a new planning team composed of district staff, students, parents, and community members in May of 2001. Action planning began in September of 2001 and in January 2002, the Thorough Review Team met to review the work of the Action Plan Teams. The 2002-2007 Strategic Plan was approved by the Board of Education and implementation and began with the 2002-2003 school year. The entire 2002-2007 Strategic Plan adopted by the Board of Education in March of 2002.
Strategic Planning 2006-2011
In April 2005 the Periodic Update Team was formed to assess implementation progress and to review the district’s strategic plan. In September 2005 teams were formed to develop action plans for Strategy #1: Curriculum, Instruction & Assessment, Strategy #2: Communications, Strategy #3: Diversity, and Strategy #4: Character Development. The Periodic Update Team met for a final time on February 3, 2006 to review proposed action plans and complete its review of the Strategic Plan. On May 8, 2006 the Waverly Board of Education adopted the Strategic Plan 2006-2011
In June of 2007, a Strategic Plan update was presented to the Board of Education. 2006-07 Strategic Plan update
Strategic Planning 2011-2016
The Waverly Board of Education approved the 2011-2016 plan in May of 2011. The Strategic Planning Team was made up of district staff, parents and community members. There were five new strategies adopted.
